"For Tonight" is a song by Givēon, released as a single through Epic Records on September 24, 2021. He stated, "This is the story of a taboo vice that I just can't seem to stop indulging in."[1]
Background
The ballad was inspired by the concept of "having a taboo connection to something or someone". He began with the music and melodies, the lyrics coming last. Instruments include the piano and drums, in which Givēon described of wanting a "timeless classic ballad with movement".[2]
On September 20th, he revealed the cover art, release date, and availability to pre-save.[3] He performed it on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in October 2021,[4] did an exclusive performance for Vevo LIFT in April 2022,[5] and performed it at the BET Awards in June 2022.[6]
Music video
The accompanying music video was directed by Sophia Nahli Allison, and premiered over Givēon's YouTube channel the same day of the single's release.[7] It depicts Givēon and his love interest, who spend one last moment together before parting ways.
He said that one of his favourite moments of the video shoot was when he sat in the car with his costar. With editing, the water was reversed, a detail he mentioned to look out for.
